The Dialogue in Your Head

Life has been very hilly lately. Distance (both long and short), decisions about the future, and the growing feeling inside my gut that things will never be the same has made the last month difficult to say the least. There have been some pretty great hills, but a couple deep valleys.

The words that hurt the most come from your own dialogue. When life gets tough you are your own worst critic.

I'm writing to remind you and myself to be kind. Remember that you're doing the best you can, and if you aren't then make a positive change. Don't assume what others are thinking about you. Believe great things about yourself. You can still be humble and confident. You're going to make mistakes. Admit them, try to fix why it happened and move on.

Give yourself a break, eat some ice cream, go on a run and say five nice things about yourself everyday.

xoxo

  2. Definitely needed to read this today. I've been in the same boat and my inner dialogue has been pretty harsh. I love the little reminder at the end, this is definitely a must read post for, well - everyone :)

  4. Sometimes it's hard when people are always reminding you to be kind to others, but it's super super important to be kind to yourself!

  6. This is so helpful. We can be our worst critic. It's a great reminder to take it easy on yourself a bit and notice what you ARE accomplishing.

  7. This is a great reminder for everyday. It would be pretty to put that picture as your phone background to remind you everyday! I'm my worst enemy. I'm seriously so mean to myself and I can't help it - I bully my own self! I think it's something we all have to work on but tend to forget we have to work on..

  8. Sometimes I get so wrapped up in the things I don't want to go wrong, I forget about everything that is already going right! I will definitely be grabbing a scoop of ice cream after your feel good post! Sending good vibes your way!

  9. This is such an amazing reminder! I was in yoga tonight and I let my focus drift and let the negative committee in my head start piping up about everything I wasn't doing right or well. I am constantly my worst critic to an amazing degree- it's so easy for me to say nice things about others and not about myself.

I hope your valleys and hills smooth out a bit.

  10. Negative self-talk can be so harming, such a plague affecting many young women these days. Very inspiring!

  11. When things don't exactly go as planned it's hard to remember to take it easy on yourself. We're much harder on ourselves than we are on others. Such a great reminder and hopefully you remember it as well. I hope it all smooths out for you.

  14. This is such a great reminder. I am so guilty of being too hard on myself. Sometimes I feel like there is always something that I could have done better, fit more to-do list things into my day, gone to the gym more times that week, etc. But self sabotaging thoughts like that only end up hurting me and making me less productive!

  19. This post is a great reminder to give yourself a break! Just because you're not where you want to be doesn't mean you're failing- you're just on your way!

  20. This is a great way to remind ourselves to focus on us and not on what anyone else thinks about us...we determine our present and future....

  21. I definitely needed this. So often, I allow my own opinions of myself to convince me that that's how everyone feels about whatever current issue I'm dealing with. Thanks for this little reminder that we're truly our own worst critics!

  22. Such a great reminder for everyone. It's so easy to be critical of yourself when life doesn't seem to be going the right way, but it's the harder choice to be positive all of the time. I hope this coming month gets a lot better for you!
