Happy Isn't a Destination

As a young adult, I feel like I'm always waiting for the next step, more money or to see MB next. Honestly it's just being a college student and being in a long distance relationship. We talk a lot about when the distance part  is over, and how nice it'll be to say good night in person instead of over the phone. I hear my friends talk about how everything will be better when they have a job, or they can make more money. Growing up everyone always talked about how after college they would have a job, meet the one and finally be happy.

But as I've grown up, I've realized happiness isn't a destination. I'm actually really happy where I am now. No I won't be spending the summer on the east coast with MB, but I will be spending my last summer as an undergraduate  with some of my closest friends. I'll have the chance to save up some money and really enjoy my last seven months in Green Bay before I graduate.

Things almost never go as I plan. I've learned that whenever a door closes, another one will open. I'm headstrong, and I believe that God tends to really have to push me onto the right path. But eventually I get there.

I've learned to be grateful for what I have in the moment even when nothing seems to be going my way. Don't get me wrong, I cry, I get upset and I wonder why all of the work that was supposed to get me somewhere hasn't gotten me exactly where I wanted to be. I throw myself a pity party every once in awhile, but I've learned how to pull myself out of it.

Happiness isn't a destination. It isn't based on the next goal that you meet, or when you finally move to the big city. It's based on you making the best out of your situation, realizing that you probably have a lot of going for you. So right now, write down 5 things you have to be happy about. Write down 5 blessings and carry it around with you for awhile. Those 5 things can give you a reason to be happy this week.

My 5 Things:
1. My sisterhood
2. My education
3.My family (blood & non-blood)
4.MB-- my boyfriend
5. My best friends JP & KG

Don't wait to be happy. Choose happiness now. It's not a mythical destination, it's a choice. Be happy now.

xoxo

  2. I love this post! It's easy to forget about the little things that truly make us happy in the midst of every day life. Definitely a reminder to just sit back and reflect every once in a while. :)

  3. Love this post!
When I graduated, I expected to have my life all figured out and well, that hasn't been the case. But that's okay..you just gotta roll with the punches and embrace the changes.
Long distance is rough but if you have good communication and determination, you can get through it.
I am in an LDR right now, and sometimes I just want to give up, but I know it'll be worth it in the end.

  7. This is such a great message and definitely something I need today. It's so easy to get boggled down thinking about the things that we could have that we think would make us happy when really everything we need to be happy is right there in front of us.

  11. I love this post, your title captured it perfect. Happiness is not the destination, but the journey. We are all taking part of a great journey to get to our destination, and during this journey we are surrounded by things that make us happy. Wonderful post!
