4 Reasons Why Your Should Have a Career Folder

Do you know all of those great articles that you tweet, share or read? It's probably safe to say that you don't remember everything you read, and wish that you could go back and find the article when needed. Over the past couple of years I've run into the problem constantly, so I started brainstorming a way to save articles that I thought would be really useful.

I created two solutions, actually printing out the article or saving it as a PDF in a special file on my laptop using printfriendly.com . It's super easy to use and you save trees, so that's a plus. Here are four reasons why you should start a career folder too!

1.Keep Information for Later: Instead of trying to remember everything you read ever about having your first job, you can keep the information for later to read before big events! It's been really helpful for me because I don't feel as rushed googling everything I can think of before a big event.

2. Writing Inspiration:  As I try to write more career inspired posts, these articles give me a great deal of inspiration! My reactions to them, what I they are missing or even a "spin-off" topic is just a few of the thoughts I can write about.

3. Help Others: Sometimes I'll have a friend who wants advice or help with something, but honestly I just can't remember anything good. So I'll go back into my files and find a URL to email or text to them so they can read it.

4.Find Favorite Writers: When looking back into my folders, I often find a blogger or professional who's articles I connect with the most. I take the time to find them on Twitter in order to read more of their content and even potentially connect.

What would you put in your career folder? Do you already do this? What is your system?

  1. Great tips! I also use the app Pocket, have you heard of it? It's really awesome and allows you to save articles to read later!

  2. Pocket is fantastic! It allows you to add tags to your articles to make certain topics easier to look through when you want to. It also allows for offline reading. Before a day at the beach or a long road trip, I always save a bunch of articles to read through when I don't have wifi access. It's great!

  3. This is an awesome post, Ashley! It's so funny that you posted about this because I was actually JUST thinking about this earlier today. I wanted to print out a bunch of articles for study tips as I start college and career articles so I can finally start freelancing. You definitely just made me realize that it would be a total waste of paper -- so now I'm definitely going to check out that site! I'm going to check out Pocket, thanks to Rachael and Alex, as well!

  5. I've heard of pocket before that Alex and Rachel mentioned but have never gotten down to it.

I do have a folder on my computer full of different articles and of course my Pinterest boards have them as well but I'd love to get them all organized.
