Healthy Habits: Waking up with Yoga

A couple of weeks ago I posted my daily summer routine, and a lot of people commented on the fact that I work out two times a day. While it's definitely more of my summer schedule, this is how I do it!

Energy: Waking up by doing a sequence of yoga or going for a short run is a great way to wake me up and keep me energized in early morning classes and meetings. The benefits of waking up early to do 15-30 minutes of yoga is worth it.

Flexibility: This seems weird, but I do a lot of sitting and walking during the day. I find that I'm more able to move without being sore as well as stiff.

Attitude: I tend to be less cranky when I wake up with exercise. I also feel more able to work out later in the day because I've already experienced the benefits of working out!

Schedule: Since I'm so busy, I try and schedule all of my workouts and treat it as an appointment.

Accomplishment: Starting the day off with something productive makes me feel like I started off on the right foot, and sets the tone for the rest of my day!

When do you workout? Have you tried to wake up and work out?

xoxo

  1. I really need to get in the habit of working out before I leave for work. Yoga looks like it would be the perfect way to ease into the morning!

  2. I definitely need some healthy habits in the morning. I am SO cranky in the morning and tired all of the time! I feel like if I make my morning better, then my whole day will be better too!

  3. I really need to make time in my school schedule this summer for working out- I was so bad about it last year! That's so awesome that you're so dedicated!!
My mom really wants me to do yoga but I think zumba/dance exercise classes are maybe more my thing. ;-)

  4. I've never tried yoga but I LOVE working out in the mornings (even though some people look at me like I'm crazy) and I agree that you should treat it as if it was an appointment. Health is so important so I'm glad to see that you're dedicated to it.

  5. I love morning workouts. I have been doing my workouts in the evenings lately, but I definitely will be doing some morning routines since I am online schooling this year and have time on my hands.

  6. I definitely am a work out in the evenings type of gal. I can't seem to get myself up just a little bit earlier to head to the gym but I sure do love my evening workouts.

  9. You have really good points - working out early in the morning is definitely a great way to start your day! I am typically an evening exerciser, but it probably would be more convenient to switch to the mornings!

  10. I really need to consider getting a 15-30min workout in during the mornings. It really helps me keep a positive outlook on the day + makes me 20x more productive. Going to try a little yoga tomorrow AM! x Nicole | www.changeanddress.com

  11. I'm not a morning person, so I haven't tried the morning workout. It might be just what I need to wake up though! I should try it. I usually work out after work but can easily find an excuse to skip. It's a viscous cycle once you start! Good for you though! Thanks for sharing!

  16. I really want to start doing yoga. I feel like it'd be the perfect way to wake up. I've only done yoga a couple times, and it's been pretty unsuccessful. I've been looking into classes though. It sounds like starting the day with yoga has so many benefits!

  18. This is such a great idea! I really need to start doing this. Sitting in a chair all day makes me stiff and miserable... so much so that I'm going to have to see a chiropractor!

  21. I used to do a ten minute yoga and five minute ab workout in the morning! I’ve fallen out of the habit, but I really should get back into it…all of your reasons for morning exercise I found true for myself, too!

  25. I'd love to try yoga! I think it would be an amazing way to start the day. I find it really hard to wake up early to go to the gym especially since it's not close to my apartment but I'm trying to figure out when I can incorporate the gym into my schedule this semester. Yoga would be super easy and quick to do after waking up, though! Are there any good beginner tutorials you recommend?
