Know your grocery stores rewards/loyalty programs and coupon policies// You can save a lot of money by having a rewards account with the chain of supermarkets you shop at the most. At other stores, they might only use coupons so make sure to check the front of the store when you go. Being informed will save you money.
Plan & Make a List// Meal plan before you make your grocery list, as well as check your kitchen and storage for items you need for your meals. Even if your meals are just ramen and cereal, and least you'll be prepared. Make a list based off of what you need still for your meals.
Buy in Season// When meal planning and searching for snacks, look at what fruits and vegetables are in season. Use this info graph to help you! It's cheaper, and the food is more likely to be on sale.
Look for sales// There are a lot of 2/5 or 10/10 sales. But do you really need those 10 containers of yogurt? A lot of those sales are meant for families, not a college student on a budget. Don't get caught up buying food because it is on sale, buy it because you're going to eat it. That's not saying you can't stock up on non-pershiable food though when it is on sale, and in your budget!
Eat Before You Go// This is a really weird piece of advice, but have you ever been to the grocery store when you're really hungry and ended up buying more? It's because you're letting your stomach shop, not your brain!
What do you do when you go grocery shopping? Any tips I missed?

YES planning ahead is so key. I always end up needing to also NOT shop hungry, or my planning goes to waste and impulse buys reign!

I have to eat before I go or else I am in BIG trouble! I always make a list and try to find coupons to go along with stuff I am already going to purchase.
ReplyDeleteLoving these, especially the "buy in season" tip! Sometimes it's more fun to grab what's fresh and come up with the recipe highlighting that item later. Great tips!

These are such great tips! I was so lost when I started going grocery shopping on my own at the beginning of this year. The part about looking for sales that fit what you need is a really good tip.

My mum's advice was always 'don't shop when you're hungry' and she made a good point! Great post :)
