Back to College// What to do Your First Week

The first week of college is this huge hurricane of emotions. Mine with a whirlwind, so I thought I would give you a list of things to do your first week of college to make things a little easier!

Welcome Week Events to Attend:
- Free Food Events (trust me, you'll be thankful for this)
-Activities Fair
-Sporting Events
-Any Nighttime Games
-Academic Presentations (yes this is boring. yes this is necessary)
-Anything else that interests you

Things To Do
-Explore your library and other buildings on campus to find a study spot
-Figure out where to get a late night snack
-Find your favorite coffee spot
-Grab dinner with your roommate(s)
-Grab a meal with someone on your floor
-Call your parents (they want to make sure you're doing well)
-Text your best friend
-Take a pic with your school's mascot
-Take a pic with your roommate and friends on your floor
-Take time for yourself
-Make sure you have your books and school supplies
-Figure out where your classes are located, and the fastest way to get there
-Explore the social scene at your school
-Take a moment to take it all in

Now the first week is a whirlwind of emotions and activities. I think they purposefully keep you busy so you don't have to time to realize what's going on! Anything I missed current/former college students?

  1. The one about figuring out where your classes are is essential for me, I always get lost because I forget to check it out before...

  2. This is so helpful! I'll be starting college next month so I'm definitely going to bookmark this to look back on!

  3. This brings back such nostalgia for me- I can't believe my first week of college was so long ago! It feels like yesterday. Great tips!

  4. I used to go for a run right before classes so that I could figure out where all my classes were!

  5. I'm sure this would have helped me so much when I was in college, I'm sure it's going to help a lot of people! i especially agree to take a moment to take it all in. It's so crazy that sometimes we don't even know what we're looking at.

  6. I totally wish I had you when I was a freshman! Good tips!

  7. So cute! Freshman year of college is so exciting, your post has me feeling so nostalgic and missing life as a baby freshman (:

  8. Great pieces of advice for incoming freshmen!! Such a fun time, I can't believe this is my last year in college! Where does time go?

  9. You're making me miss college so much!
Oh how I wish I could go back in time and relive some of those days.

  10. This post brought back so many memories to me of my freshman year haha- just the other night I went through my freshman year photo album on Facebook. I can definitely relate to so much of this post. Schools definitely keep you busy when you first arrive! I really need to blog about some funny stories from the start of my college career.

    xoxo A

  11. Finding a coffee spot and a go-to study spot are the highest priority on my list!

  12. I'm getting so nostalgic here and totally missing college right now! There are awesome tips, I totally agree about the library!

  13. Great post and advice for fresher-man!!!

  14. All of these back to college posts make me sad that I'm old now haha I want to go back!

  15. Welcome Week is definitely an important time to delve deep into college life. I know I would have been 10x more homesick if I had skipped out on all the events. I basically went to everything, and enjoyed it all, even if it was awkward at times.

  16. That is a wonderful list! And I agree - free food events are the BEST. The closer I got to graduation, the more I attended. Haha.

  17. These are really great! My roommate and a bunch of our friends all went together our freshman year to scope out where our classes would be. It was really great and helping to calm my first day jitters! We sort of ended up making it a tradition even though we know where all the buildings are now. It's more of a way for us to say hello to the campus again before starting classes!

  18. Great post! I am bookmarking this so I can reread in a couple of weeks!

  19. I love that you included taking time for yourself. I'm an RA for freshmen, and so often everyone just seems to want to branch out and meet anyone and everyone. That's good, but it can get easy to feel lost and a bit out of place if you don't take the time to reflect, too!

  20. What a great list! I remember there were tons of great free events on campus leading up to the first day and it definitely is important to figure out where your classes are so there aren't any surprises!
