Back to College// How to Manage Your Time

The hardest part about college is balancing your time between everything you want to do. Instead of time, think of it as managing your energy. When you have the most energy, that's when you should schedule your classes and home work time.




Schedule// At the beginning of each day, try and have an idea of what you want to do that day. As I got busier in college, I actually schedule out my day. That doesn't have to happen, but I would recommend having at least an idea of what you want to do.

Take Advantage of Time Between Classes// Instead of waiting at night to do all of your homework, do it in between classes. This way you'll have plenty of time at night to hang out with friends and go do other things!

Work Out & Relax// This seems like just one more thing to add to your to-do list, but this gives your brain a break and recharges you! I recommend reading a book or just hanging out with your friends!

Plan Ahead// If you know that you're going to be really busy one day, or one weekend you won't be able to get work done try and work ahead! You'll thank yourself later when you aren't up until 2 am after a super busy day.

Prioritize// Know what you have to get done, and what is the most important. Start with the most important task first and work through your list. It'll de-stress you when you have the most important assignment done.

Figure Out How to Keep Track of Tasks// Each person is different when it comes to to-do lists and knowing when assignments are do. Figure out your own system, and make a commitment to using it!

Say No// This is the hardest lesson ever, but know when to say no. It's okay to give yourself a break or to prioritize something else. If you learn this lesson now, it'll help you for the rest of your life!

  1. I agree! Saying no can be hard sometimes. To get organized, I like to write down everything, and I mean everything on my agenda and sticky pads for the most important things.

  5. Ooo, time management and saying "No" are definitely two of the most important things to remember! I live by my schedule, and sometimes I have to just look at it and tell someone I can't do something - it's really hard, but have to do it!

  6. The last one makes me laugh (nervously) because I'm AWFUL at saying no! I want to be a part of anything and everything and I feel guilty when I say I'm too busy. I feel like people think I'm a snob when I say I don't have time to do this or that. I need to work on it!

  8. I loved this post since as I wrote in my own blog post today, I'm already super worried about time management for my busy upcoming semester!

    I personally focus better on my homework at night then right after classes in the daytime- but I need to get better about doing it right after dinner instead of late at night!

  9. I'm not in college anymore but I still try to set myself a schedule every day to manage my time wisely. I am not perfect at saying "no" but I am much better than I used to be.

  12. Nice tips! I'm a list maker, so I find that my time is best managed when I'm able to lay everything out and see it. This helps me to prioritize my tasks and make sure to get everything done!

  13. Saying no is definitely the hardest thing ever. But I have to learn how to do it more often! I also love making time between my classes...have to do that more often too!

  16. I am so thankful for my sorority experience, because it quickly taught me time management! Even post-grad, I still schedule my day out. It's the only way to be sure you have enough hours in the day!

  20. Doing work between classes is my FAVORITE tip. Let's face it...doing homework at night when your friends want to hang out and catch up is a drag! Getting everything done during the day makes life so much easier.

  22. Great tips! I definitely try to get as many things done between classes as possible! I want as much time at night to do fun things! I definitely am going to have a challenge this semester because I'm taking on so much more things with my blog!
